Kendall County’s Republicans are hosting a special event to honor our county’s military veterans. On July 11th starting at 5:00pm, festivities will get underway at Ralph’s Place at Blackberry Oaks Golf Course (2245 Kennedy Road in Bristol) for a “Salute to Veterans”.
With an idea that started with a generous offer from Bill Nieme, owner of Ralph’s Place, the concept has grown to where local citizens of Kendall County will be able to purchase dinner for a local veteran. With the opportunity to purchase a meal for both yourself and a local vet for just $25, Kendall County citizens will be able to show their gratitude directly to these very special veterans for the service to our country.
Naturally, veterans will be not be required to pay for their meals and are welcome to bring any special mementos and photos of their service which they would like to share with other guests.
Brigadier General William Weir (Ret.). BG Weir (Ret.) has served not only our country with great distinction, but now serves our community as a judge within the 16th Judicial Circuit based out of Kane County.
The singing group Suburban Sound Quartet (members of Sweet Adelines International, Western Lights Chorus)will be performing their outstanding program including a stirring version of the “Battle Hymn of the Republic”.
The proceeds of the event have a special destination that will not be used for any political purposes. Rather, all earnings from the event will be set aside to purchase as many “Honor Flights” as possible. The Honor Flight program is focused on offering veterans of World War II the chance to see the World War II Memorial in Washington, D. C. which was opened to the public just four years ago. Unfortunately, our nation’s WWII veterans are aging and many have not had the occasion to see this recent memorial which they earned on behalf of all Americans.
Veterans from all branches of the Armed Services are invited by our host committee comprised of Ret. State Senator Bob Mitchler (Navy), Richard Rockenbach (Marines), Carlo Colosimo (Army), and Lee Hoffer (Air Force).
